I'm Doing a Detox - and sharing my experience with you!

So, this is happening. The Detox Diaries.

This week I start a detox programme and will be sharing my experience with you.

Important to note: this is not a detox where I will be inviting you to do it along with me and its not my program to facilitate. However, it is an awesome one, that becomes a way of life and I invite you to follow me through my journey.

💫 I hope it may inspire in some way, even by sharing any lows I may have!

🙏🏼 If you have any tips or words of wisdom, I welcome them!

🤷‍♀️ If you have any questions, please ask

I'll be sharing in this blog, and regularly on Instagram and in my fb group:

We were away with family last week and although I know it is possible to be away from home and still detox, I thought I would make things easier for myself when starting, when at home instead of out and about, eating out etc.

Also, as it turns out, this last week has been week 1 of my cycle, which for me means that a) I am hungrier, and b) life is at times more emotionally challenging!

So to give myself the optimal circumstances I'm starting properly tomorrow, Monday, on week 2, in the "Spring" part of my cycle, when things feel lighter, easier. It's given me a chance to mentally prepare, too, having decided to do this last week.

In my last week before starting my detox, when away with family for days and meals out, I have felt like I wanted to "allow" myself some things I enjoy eating and drinking.

Things that I think of as "treats" even though I know they are not particularly good for my body. These include:

☕ Coffee (partial to an oat milk dirty chai latte)

🍸 Gin and Tonic (especially a fruity gin)

🥡 Chinese Takeaway (I'm a sucker for tofu and chilli)

🍟 Chips (triple-cooked chips, )

🥯 Tea cake (my mum had accidentally-vegan ones!)

🧂 Crisps (these are my downfall, those salty snacks)

I know it's about balance, moderation, and I am not saying that anyone should or should not be eating any of these things. And I know it's about mindset. I also know from past experience, when I have detoxed and am eating more healthily, I do not want these things. The body craves them less.

For me, these foods are treats or comfort food, and they are also, simultaneously "bad" food/drinks, to be avoided!

I know I am not alone in thinking/feeling this. And I say feeling, as many of us have an emotional attachment/reaction to food. It can be a very complex and deep-rooted issue. Just shows what kind of relationship many of us have with them, and the confusion our minds and bodies go into when trying to be healthy and meet our emotional needs!

I think, in the grand scheme of things, not many foods need to be thought of as a "banned" or "bad" food, or even a "treat". However, I know that for a detox for my body, to become healthier again, I will not be consuming any of the above or similar for a while now.

Preparation is key, for me, when detoxing. I have, in the past, on the spur of the moment, decided to detox at times when I wasn't prepared:

- without enough of the right food in the house

- with too much of the wrong food in the house

- too much arranged socially or for work, meaning I was out of the house a lot and left without proper time to prepare

I'm a person who likes to be prepared otherwise I panic about not having the right things, and end up making bad choices and the detox goes to pot! Anyone else have this experience?!

So I'm getting in lots of fresh fruit and vegetables (organic and seasonal where possible) in. They are key in this cleanse.

I'm excited! Let's do this!
